The chief naval museum and one of the `Big Three` UK Maritime Museums. Situated in the heart of Portsmouth`s Historic Dockyard, alongside Nelson`s famous flagship, HMS VICTORY. Its five large galleries (most of them recently modernised) cover all aspects of naval history from earliest days to the present, these are supported by research facilities, a major naval Library and a alarge shop. Collections include : figureheads, ship models, personal memorabillia (including the country`s finest collection of Nelson`s relics); medals, ship relics; and prints and paintings. There is an extensive documentary, oral history and photographic archive, which is available to researchers by appointment. The Museum also manages The Administry Library (70, 000+ volumes), housed in a building next door to the Museum. Open 7 days a week 1000 - 1630 (later in summer)
